Do you have the insight?
I'm curious to know what the opinions of you skill gamers are..
How much prize money do you think all of our players have won at Skill Addiction? We're not even a year old and have yet to do any sort of major marketing (still fiddling with the application and stuff)
Here's a little benchmark
it took King 6 months for $50,000 in prizes. We're not King, not nearly the monetary backing they had/have and no large scale marketing efforts (yet).
Guesses?

I personally have probably won (not profited -- just won) $500. I'll bet overall it is already $60K in under a year.

I would say less, only because I find alot of competitions take a long time to close. I think people just haven't been aware of the site in the same way as ww and king (until recently that is!). I wouldn't have known about it if not for this message board. So I would guess around 30K-50k (for the whole year)? But that's a total stab in the dark lol. And hopefully, judging by the progressive activity, things will start ramping up a bit. But I still have cups outstanding for staries and poxxle from weeks ago, so obviously there aren't the volume of players yet.

Interesting - can't wait to see more guesses.
It's true, we are not nearly as well known as King or WW (did you know that the owners of King were worth $100,000,000+ when they started King, that's a lot of cash to fund a website with!). Also, we offer a lot of tournament types and with a smaller community that does thin out the competitions, making some of them take longer to close - combined with the skill rankings.
We're not even 1 yr old yet though, our doors opened in April, but we didn't tell many people and still have yet to spread the word through wide marketing.
More guesses?

Whoa, that's a nice start-up budget! Not surprising they grew so huge then really. I wonder what the owners' background was and how they had so much dosh. Do you sometimes wish you were in that position? I think it's amazing that you've got the site up and running and are trying to compete with these, let's face it, huge corporate sites. I think people also need to realise that your lower rake on competitions is better value than 25%-30% on king/ww (on tens/hundreds/thousands of dollars it soon adds up), and maybe if your site grows in market share it will force the others to lower their rake a bit.

Yeah, right? Well, there is a lot to be said and experienced without the budget - but let's face it, if we had that kind of money we could be doing a lot of things with it. They've enjoyed the industry, controlling it, directing it, now its some time to spark some innovation in it. An industry cannot be as efficient as it can be without some competition - competition sparks innovation.
Normally, we have a 15% rake, pretty standard through the site. ($.18/$1.18 = ~15%)
The owners of King were in another industry, another online presence, and had sold it for hundreds of millions. Then they decided to start up King.com, pretty sweet deal.
We've already seen many other sites die off in this short period of time, so just sitting here must mean we're doing something on the right track. We've got lots of stuff coming out for SA and the players so let's see how well it does and if the competition starts to give us a nod and recognition.

Flignats ... If we guess correctly, will you match the winner with tokens???
I wouldn't get too excited over King, nor the smaller German and French competitors ... they all got $$$ boosts from what I have read, and it's easier to nail down investors that come from the regulated/legal/not-quite-so-legal online gambling casinos ... those are very different social circles than what the average joe here can do walking into his local Wells Fargo to beg for a biz loan.
If I were a bettin' man ... and I wouldn't be here, if I wasn't ...
I'd say you pulled this off for less than $5000. But, only based on personal experience (I wouldn't know where to start to put together a skill gaming world) ... because I borrowed that much (that was my limit on my American Express) to launch a shop online back in the late 90's, which grossed 6 figures in the first-second year, before falling hard during the last friggin' recession!
... I wanna say around $10,000, but your site needs an overhaul
