King cup tournaments - please explain the number of winners/prize breakdown?

I am totally baffled by this breakdown of cup tournaments

(which are always a series of head to head matches, not best of group, correct? )

For every one how can there be only one semi-final winner, then one final winner? If there is only one winner of the sem-final, who the heck are they going to compete against for the final?


Example I Scream Ice Cream's 16 player $21 cup 1.75 entry fee Prize division listed as such:

but if I am the only winner of 4.46, then I have no one to play against for the last opponent. And still it doesn't make sense to say the 4.46 is the prize for the semi fnal round meaning that the final winner will have earned 8.66 total, or to say that each of those is the actual prize for the round because then if I won each round I would have won the total of all those prizes. How the hell are they explaining this in this terminology? Is it kind of like the way worldwinner "win it now" totals never include the game that you just played and therefore misleads you into thinking that your prize is bigger than it is (which can actually result in a negative "prize" if you happen to be the second slot of a five player game or the like)?

AND in a 16 player grouping of 1 on 1 matches, how do you only get 4 winners of the first round - if there are only four, shouldn't there be my score vs THREE others not just one?
16 players make 8 pairs of matchups - making one of each pair for the next round - EIGHT winners, not four. Because if each player is given a number , 1, 2, 3 etc. then 1vs2. 3vs4, 5vs6 paired are the first round and all the even numbers win, you have 2, 4, 6, 8. 10 , 12, 14, 16 going into round 2 : 2vs4, 6vs8, 10vs12, 14vs16 . THEN Lets say that the lower number always wins and we have FOUR going into THE TWO SEMI FINALS THAT ARE round 3 2vs6, 10vs14 - And if the higher of each of those wins, there is one FINAL match (round 4)between the TWO winners 6 vs 14 - Yeilding ONE final prize winner

If I win the final 4th round prize of 4.46 - then I win a TOTAL of 8.66 as the final winner, there is no final round prize of 8.66 , so how can this be portrayed this way? Is this fuzzy math or am I not understanding something ? No matter how I try and make sense of the way they word this it doesn't seem to go with the above scenario...


At any rate, it feels like a cheap trick to make it look like a bigger prize by semantics. I don't appreciiate that kind of advertising.

There are only 4 people who will win $0.78 because there are only 4 people who will win their first match AND THEN LOSE their second one. There is only one person who will win $4.46 for winning the semi-final because there's only one person who will win their semifinal match AND THEN LOSE in the final.

Ohhhh, okay. At least adds up right. But why list the prizes that way instead of just by each round? Just seems weird to me, since the prizes are handed out each level, why even bother with the running total? By the time I've gotten to round 4, the round 1 funds are already gone to something else anyway...

I believe they list the prizes that way so they look bigger and more appealing.
I wish you could at least have the option of changing it to 'prize per round' - that would make much more sense.
