Default Does King have too many games?

Ok, how about a discussion on the pro/cons of King having over 85 games (not counting the "Deluxe" games) currently, as compared to WW's 33 games.

I just went through the list of games and I count there were a total of 41 games on King back when I joined in April 2006. The WW number hasn't really changed too much, as they've removed some games since then and added some as well.

IMHO, King's game selection is getting bloated. Anymore, King seems to be going for quantity, not quality. The Attaqua game has been a total bomb from what I've seen, and it seems like after a few months of release, things really die-down in most new games. Variety is good, and I can see where King's coming from. To me, King's trying to become a "destination" online games portal, where all the games can be played for cash if you so decide.

I just think there's getting to be too many choices at King.

    Thoughts??

I do agree that the new games just feel like the current "flavor of the month" and kind of kill the participation in "deluxe" games. Graceful Jewels & Crescendo Catcher are awesome games, but from what I've seen they hardly get any play anymore. If we could have bigger stakes tournaments for the good games on a regular basis, I'd be a lot happier.

I would still pick King over WorldWinner in terms of games and its variety...there's something for everyone. Card games, word games, swap 3 games, gameshows...etc.

It's one of those deals where everyone would say, sure, King should drop its worst 10-20 games... BUT THEY SURE BETTER NOT BE MY FAVORITES!!

...and everyone has different favorites. So it's tough for them to drop games.

afort you arent complaining that king has too many games...what you are really complaining about is that not enough people play each one to boost the progressives like you want them too.

king is awesome and they crank out high quality fun and addictive games each month. its not their fault if people refuse to boost the progressive for you...or your rank is too high in the new game to be matched with anyone :P

Speaking about ranking being too high, King's ranking system can really hamper the enjoyment of a game from a competitive perspective. For instance, in Crescendo Catcher...I must've played that game for a week tops after fluking a 1st place win and being bumped up to the top ranks. There's really no way I can compete in the top ranks without extensive practice, so I just dropped the game even though I had fun with it. I understand the need for a player to be bumped from 2000 to 8000 from 1 good tournament, but it kinda ends things from there.

the one negative on king.com is it actually marginalizes the best players instead of rewarding them...I haven't played there since the keyword royal cup ended...I have no progressives open to me and the cash competitions that are available are pitiful and go unmatched with refunds....i actually just logged on yesterday to empty my account of withdrawable funds....

players go to where the money is, when a new game is added it's popular not only because it's new, but because they put on 2000 euro tournaments.

Even now, if they decided to put a 2000 euro tournament on the least played game on king, it would all of a sudden get a lot more popular .

This was proven when the Midas Miner progressive -- not a terribly well-populated game -- closed in like one day.

yea exactly. i hate that. i would so OWN in all the crescendo catcher tournaments if they had WW crappy FMS system where you can prey upon less skilled players for life XD oh and king had WW premiums. but nooo i am shut up in 14k rank with no one ot play against in my all time fave skillgame! it sux man -.-

It's obvious King is targeting casual players who play for fun and not to make money. Even the site itself is far more cute and cozy than WW. In that sense they're doing a great job with game development, pumping out many unique and fun games so that everyone will find something they like.

The problem though is that the player base isn't really growing all that much, especially not the gold players. Because they take 25% of all entry fees, almost everyone will incur losses, and since you can also play for free, there's not a huge incentive to start throwing your cash at them.

When you reach the highest bracket in a game you will usually find yourself playing against the same group of 5-20 people (without progressives, cups, or premiums) and you need to be consistently better than them all to still make a (small) profit. That's why for the best players Royal Cups are the main (or only) source of income, and since they are so rare, the amount of money you make depends more on the RCs King starts rather than the time you spend playing on the site.

I personally don't mind it that much because I just love playing the games and the bit of money I make is just an added bonus. But I do agree they can cut down a bit on their game development budget and work on expanding the paying player base by making it easier to make a (big) profit.
