Signed up and joined! I used to use RadioBlogClub for streaming music until the service stopped...I'll definitely switch over to Last.fm. Already added my favorite band.

I signed up and joined the group, but uhh, what do I do now? I've never been on Last.fm, and I don't know it's function or purpose.

Yeah, I never really figured Last.fm out.

I prefer pandora.com. All you have to do with Pandora is enter a song or artist that you like, and the program will suggest additional songs you might like that have the same qualities as that song or artist. You can enter multiple songs or artists to narrow in on your musical tastes. You give the program feedback via "thumbs up" and thumbs down." It's a little rough in the beginning as Pandora narrows in on your musical tastes, but I almost never interact with mine anymore, other than to confirm new songs with a "thumbs up" You can also develop multiple "Stations", say an Rock/Alternative station for the upbeat mood, a Classical station to relax, etc.

The main point of last.fm is that it counts how often you play certain songs and artists and with that info it can recommend artists and find people with similar tastes. You can also listen to all kinds of radio stations; people tag music with certain keywords and each keyword is also a radio station (like "electronic" or "thrash metal"). It also has tons of social features, like groups, and then it makes a combined most listened chart for all its members (if the group is large enough).

With the last.fm software you can connect your music player to last.fm. They also have it for your iPod.
