Default Hey ScrabbleCubers... Has anyone ever landed a "quetzal" while you were playing?

I've been looking for it ever since I've been playing (2 years) and haven't found it yet.

Has anyone else gotten it, and if you did, what kind of points did you get for?

I used to play Scrabble Blitz all the time and became really good at setting myself up for "quetzals" worth in the 300-400 point range in that game.

Every now and then I'd go for the "oxyphenbutazone" at the bottom of the screen, which was a lot tougher for me, but was fun to try and get. I think that was worth well over 1000 points.

It used to make some people think you were cheating when you came up with 1500 plus total score at the end of the game.

    Default Nice Rahn

That's gotta' be the highest legit single word we've seen.

I've gotten QUIXOTE before, but the both X and Q were on the double word score instead of the triple. WHEEZED was my next highest for 233, I believe, and I've gotten that about 5 times now (Only twice breaking 200 points, though)

Cool!! I wish I could sacrifice a lot of points and come up with a 1,012 game!

I just got my first 1,000 ever a month ago, then I just came up with my 2nd one a few days ago 1,017... WOO HOO!

I was headed for about a 1,050-60 game, but wasted too much time trying to find the best pick with about 3 or 4 seconds left and left a few cubes, one with a double letter score on it and some decent consonants.

I've been working on trying to study all the 7 letter words for z, q, x, and j, and I think that's starting to help me get higher scores. Although, sometimes I go through a whole game and never even see them!

There's TOO many words to learn, but I figured if I can get familiar with the highest scoring letter words, every now and then I can land some decent set-ups for good scores.

It takes a long time before the words start to look familiar though. Words like syzygal and sovkhoz don't just jump out at you until you've looked at them a couple of thousand times!

So far my highest is buxomer for 176 points.

Someday, I'll get me a 200 pointer word, but I'd rather have an 1,100 point game instead.

When you guys learn all these words, do you also learn their meaning or just their existence?

I'm not bothering to learn what they mean. All I care is that it's a word that'll make me points. I do know that a quetzal is a bird, a parrot, I think. I learned that one, since I was using it all the time when I used to play Scrabble Blitz, I had to know what it was.

I've looked up a couple of the other ones, just out of curiosity, but it's too much trouble to try to know what every word means. As long as it works, that's all I care!

Never learn the meanings...not enough room in the brain for all that. I do learn part of speech usually, to figure out what takes S, ED, LY, or things like that.

just FYI, SOVKHOZ is "offensive" (if I remember correctly) and wouldn't count in scrabble cubes...SOVKHOZY is also good...

I was curious what it was after you mentioned that so I looked it up. This is what it says:

"a state-owned farm of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics paying wages to the workers "

If it's offensive, I'm guessing it must be a farm of prostitutes!

You won the freeplay yesterday! Good job! I choked again. What really pisses me off, is I scored like 880 the game right before, which would have gotten me in the top 12 I think. DAMN!

I CHOKED hard on the first one ended up just under 700 and leaving about a dozen cubes, which would have easily gotten me over 800.

Then scored a 737 on the 2nd one, having to basically waste the last dozen and a half cubes, because I was running out of time again. Then, I still left about 5 or 6 on the screen!

I think one of my main problems is I'm thinking too much and wasting too much time. I ended up 106th.

One of these days I'm going to make that top 12 and get my $2!!
