Anyone else have a lag problem or know what might be causing mine?
In certain games I have noticed a weird lagging that sometimes is immediate and sometimes develops as the game goes getting worse as it progresses...
Pop Painter has been the worst, so bad that I don't bother to play since it happened more often than not. I play tons, but happens only rarely in Diamond Digger. Farm king used to do it on occasion, but always right at the outset and only happened maybe twice on Crescendo catcher. Now what's really bugging me is I scream Ice Cream, and it only happens when the bowl starts to get full that that the lag develops - not a good time for that considering that is when time is of the essence! Once I click a big group, it seems to pick up a bit sometimes, though not always.
This is really driving me nuts, happens in both ie8 and Chrome. Its usually as though the audio is progressing normally and the video is just going in slow mo or is just skipping frames entirely and is like a slide show instead of animation. Sometimes if I click madly in frustration and then stop while this is happening, I can take my hands away and watch it play itself as the last few moves register (whatever they would be, since I couldn't actually see the screen that each one happens). This can be up to 4 or five moves, and what's weird is that even as they execute they seem to delay longer in between even though I am not actually touching anything when this happens. This is getting annoying as it has cost me some good games right at the end of Ice cream now that I've gotten that worked out on getting a decent score with consistency...
I've had flash glitches on WW too, but not as often - usually on majong dimensions or bejeweled. I run a tight OS and not a bunch of extra services , so I always know if there is some weird spyware or something going on... but this has me stumped. Is anyone else experiencing this kind of issue? Or similar? And why would it only do that when the bowl starts filling in Ice Cream? To me that points to not a hardware problem, but I am really not an engineer or anything, so I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like that should happen if it was a HDD glitch or something... And why some games more often than others?
Hey vox, I totally know what you mean (I thought it was just me!). The ice cream game is the worst yet, plus Candy Crush. What pc/processor/graphics card do you have (is your pc several years old like mine)? I think they haven't optimised the flash games for old hardware, so you need a modern cpu/gpu. Not like the graphics are that advanced or anything, but still.
The weird thing though is some games don't suffer from any lag at all, like Storm Chaser and Crescendo Catcher. I think they are programmed in an older format or something. Also, I have noticed if I play late at night (when there are a fewer number of players showing at the top), the lag is massively reduced. It's like during the day, there servers can't cope or something and it somehow causes lag with the games. Am I the only one to notice this? Would be interested to know if others have found the same thing.
Hmm. I've never looked for any correlation with the number of players online. I will have to make a note if it happens more...
What are you running for CPU/GPU?
I'm running XP SP3 pro on a 3.2Ghz hyperthreading P4 with 4 gigs physical ram in dual channel on an asus p4p800e-deluxe with a ICEQ turbo HD 3850 AGP GPU. The newer browsers are all stupidly hoggish on memory for doing absolutely nothing nowadays. Why on earth would anyone need a quad core cpu and 16 gigs of RAM just to surf the web and play some 2-dimensional cartoon animated flash game? Its older hardware but it was top of the line stuff that the hard core gamers used to use for the 3D high framerate shit back when it was new. My specs are good enough to handle HD video playback and even some editing, so I have no idea why flash should cause it to hitch up.
I wrote to support and they suggested to uninstall adobe flash entirely and then reinstall - but the link they gave me (yesterday) was to version 10.3 and the current is up around 11.2 or something. But at least I am glad to find out I am not the only one! I read on the fools blog a lot of problems with Pop Painter when it first came out too, but no one seemed to have issues with any other games. I find that it is limited to the newer more recent ones, and the old ones are just ducky. Must be something in the code, but actually a lot of flash stuff started to go wonky around version 10, so maybe it IS adobe's issue and not the games?
EDIT>> just checked the ticket again after asking if it should be the older version or not and the link now takes it to the current update, so I guess I'll see if that helps any. Gotta wait until the tourneys end though, so I can get some cash back!
That's amazing, I have very similar setup to you (so I'm not the only pc dinosaur around lol!). Pretty much proves that they haven't programmed these flash games efficiently at all. They have so much power now from the cpu, they just get lazy. My system can handle amazing games like Far Cry, Doom 3 etc. at decent frame rates (which were state of the art back in the day), far more complex than 2d games on king. But like I say, Storm Chaser and Crescendo are fast-moving games with lots of action/movement, and I don't have any lag at all playing them, so they must be using the graphics card/direct3d/whatever more efficiently. The only answer for me with Candy Crush, Bubble Saga etc. is to play late at night, and to right-click the mouse and select low graphics quality. Good luck (I think we both need an upgrade soon lol!)
(By the way, I don't think the latest flash/firefox/updates etc. will make much difference, it's the hard-code of the game that's the problem, and how it interacts with the browser. They just program everything now as though we're all on modern dual/quad core cpu's).

Lazy coding. Can't say i'm shocked, though it is a disappointing sign of the times when they are pushing out a new version number every other month for software. I find it distasteful to say the least...EVERYTHING is so throw away now, nobody takes pride in their work anymore. Most of the time I don't they even test anytning, just roll it out asap with the idea that any bugs will just be fixed in an update. NEWER is becoming less and less likely to be BETTER in almost every field now..
Discovered it may have something to do with heat, so make sure that your cpu cooler is dust-free - I was playing over at my Mom's on her macbook which would suddenly get very warm at the end of the each game when the bowl would begin filling at the top and the fan would kick on fierce, but it always stayed responsive anyway, no lag. It's considrably warmer at my house during the summer and I've accumulated much dust keeping the doors and windows open the last few weeks. I opened up my machine at home and discovered a nice layer of dust on everything, much worse than I've ever seen it, and one of my big fans had even stopped turning. I haven't fixed the fan but I did blow the crud out and replaced my thermal paste and noticed it did improve a bit even so..
