    Question gimigames confusion

    Greetings all,

I've noticed some rather strange results on gimigames and I wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar.

For those that don't know, gimigames offers multiplayer skill games in the form of live competitions and tournaments of between 2 and 500 players. The scores are up to 10k and determined by how quickly you complete a game, from a maths question to removing tiles in mahjong solitaire. You can enter tournaments as many times as you like but only get to see what your competitors scored after the tournament has finished.

I joined several months ago and started playing the live cash competitions without much luck.

Looking for inspiration I had a look at the top players and noticed that they all seemed remarkably similar in the number of games played, skill levels, join date etc. I emailed gimigames and they explained that these players were actually bots. Clearly the bots were too good for me so I had a look at the tournament games which I had been told the bots did not play.

I played in a dozens of tournaments over a period of a few months and started to notice something strange, as I got better at the games and achieved higher scores, my competitors all seemed to be getting better too (despite having the lowest skill rank). There seemed to be very little variation in the competition, regardless of whether I did well or poorly, they seemed to all be within a couple of thousand points of my own.

Becoming a little suspicious I tried an experiment: deliberately getting extreme scores.

I started by obtaining the highest score I could of around 8k with my competitors all obtaining 7k-9k, next I joined a match, and went off to make a cup of tea, came back then finished with an abysmal score of a few thousand. Yet again my competitors duly followed my tea making example with none of them scoring more than 5k. After repeating this with the same result a few times I decided to see how far I could take this, I let the time run out on one game and scored 0, my competitors all scored 0, 1, 2 and “undefined”.

I sent a polite email asking gimigames for clarification and they promptly responded that they'd investigate it, followed by 3 months of silence.

Perhaps this was a co-incidence, or I've mistaken what appear to be skill games with scratch cards where the outcome is pre-determined. So has anyone else tried gimigames or one of the affiliates?

It is illegal for a skill gaming provider to have you compete against bots. That's akin to playing against the "house" -- not allowable online. Never heard of Gimigames, but I would stray far away from that site..

Sounds like an extremely dodgy scam.

So this happens in games where you actually play for cash? That is crazy.
