I think skillgaming just needs to be continually exposed to the mainstream demographic. I don't think the average internet user knows about sites like King or WorldWinner, so that's what it'll take for skillgaming to sustain itself for the future.

That's exactly right; hopefully that doesn't mean Hannah Montana versions of Bejeweled or Jonas Bros. Jeopardy.

Very interesting topic--but I think a given with anything mainstream is that becomes very watered down & commercialized. So yah, it would Hannah Montana galore. As far as skillgamers getting more notoriety, that is just something that would require a united effort. Are there any skill gaming leagues? Once people establish a group with criteria instantly there is a sense of credibility surrounding said people--and credibility get the masses respect/attention so there would be more of an interest with the skillgaming professional (hope this wordiness is clear).

Skill gaming appeals to the "gambler" in me more than the "gamer" and I don't know if that is the general consensus but often I think that why if skill gaming doesn't seem as sportsman-like as just gaming. Aside from the wide-spread cheating just to earn a quick buck, there's also question with the integrity of the different gaming sites. Are they really providing a safe and fair place for me to compete, and so on an so forth...Anyway, that is a lot of rambling but I over think everything Ultimately, the skill gaming industry seems to have come quite a ways since I dabbled in it of it but it' is just one small facet of online gaming as a whole and I don't think it needs to be more than that.

For record, I've been skill gaming since '93, predominately word games and sadly enough, I still suck...but it's all good fun.

I am originally a gamer. I professionally played games as a career for a couple of years.

I won many tournaments, played with the best, top'd leagues, and all in all had a complete blast doing it and earning myself £20,000+ in the process.

I briefly looked at skill gaming a couple of times, but never really made anything out of it, or took the time to get good at any of the games.

Then I tried king.com, carnival shootout is any FPS gamers dream. You play good gaming in FPS you play good in that.

I quickly made myself £150ish and cashed out, after king complained at me for a while they eventually gave me my money.

Since then, my rank in carnival got to a point where it was really hard to consistantly win money, so I moved to other games where my rank was lower.

I have cashed out nearly £800 from king now, and although its not fantastic money, it is a LOT easier than playing general games professionally. I am learning to play zuma on worldwinner and may give that a go again soon.

I strongly believe, that as Poker was a huge hit, and then it was followed up by Bingo been a huge hit online, that skill gaming will take it's place. Just the time needs to be right and the right features need to be in place on the sites.

Back in 1999 I started playing Unreal Tournament, and quickly made it into the UK team, and although I was good enough to win big cash (£5k winners prize) I never managed it due to nerves mainly
I carried on playing and was in the top 10 in the UK for ages in the UT series, but it never won me any cash even though our team won a fair few leagues/cups over the years..

I kept expecting it to make the big time much like gaming has in South Korea, but 10 years on, I think we are no nearer than we were 10 years ago.
In South Korea, being in the top 10 there would have made me a super star earning millions, they are crazy about gaming.

As for these little skill game sites, they are a good stepping stone, but they just aren't publicised enough. Most people that play probably don't even think anyone actually makes any profit from the sites, so I just can't see these leading to mainstream 'pro' gaming.
I do now have a regular income from King.com of a decent amount, but still nowhere near enough to live on, it's just a bonus at the moment.

Well skill gamming is basically means that you have taken it as a profession and you are playing in a championship at a very big level...whereas gaming simply means you are playing it for fun and you may or may not be taking it seriously...Skill gaming is legal in most jurisdictions within North America, Europe and Asia and have become a very popular...So definitely in the coming decade we would see a lot more coming in this sector and many cash game tournament will be there and people definitely will get facinated by it by knowing more and more about it...

On similar lines, I'm curious, what % of your income do you need to make b4 officially being 'pro' at something?
